Johann Christoph Bach [22] was son of Johann Ambrosius Bach [11]. He studied in Erfurt with Johann Pachelbel from 1685 to 1688, when he became organist of St Thomas's in Erfurt. From 1690 he was organist of St. Michael's, Ohrdruf. From 1695 to 1700 he gave instruction to his brother J.S. Bach [24], who lived in his house after their parents' death. He has been identified as the main copyist of two major keyboard anthologies, important sources for some of J.S. Bach's early works: the Johann Andreas Bach Buch (D-LEm, Sammlung Becker 111.8.4) and the Mollersche Handschrift (D-B, Mus. ms. 40644).
